Female Health – The Menstrual Cycle

Female health is highly influenced by the menstrual cycle. Despite being in 2024; there is still confusion and a lack of understanding around female periods. This is a basic introduction to what you can expect during your menstrual years.

Most females will begin their periods around the age of 12 years. From this point on, you become a diary watcher. To begin with it helps to record the date of your period so that you can predict when the next one will come. It helps to be prepared rather than surprised! In time most women learn the rhythm of their bodies and come to understand the symptoms and patterns that indicate a period is on its way. In the early days, periods can be erratic and may take at least a year to settle into a routine.

Female Health – What affects your cycle?

Female Hormones are sensitive to many different factors. For example, anxiety and stress, which may bring your period forward or delay it. Too much exercise, rapid weight loss and fad diets can stop your period. Women are also susceptible to the cycles of the moon. Some women will find their periods align with the moon cycles or that they are influenced by the moon. For example, I get very disorganized and don’t sleep well during the run up to a full moon

A typical period will last around 5 days, generally the cycle is 28 days. Your bleed will be bright red at first and you may notice some cramping in your stomach. I recommend that you talk to your mother and other female relatives. Ask them about their periods. This is a good indication of the type of period you may have.
